How to Make an Overhead Rise Real Estate Video

An overhead rise lifts from a normal view of a surface to straight down over it. It is the shot food and interiors magazines use for a reason: a top-down view makes a surface into a composition, and a listing with a beautiful island deserves one.

What the overhead rise does

The camera lifts over the island or table until it looks straight down. Lift over the island or table until the camera looks straight down.

Rises and tips down. Rise into a top-down view. Inside the app, every move also has a 3D preview of the rig and the exact photo map it asks for.

Best rooms for an overhead rise

  • Kitchen islands with a styled surface
  • Dining tables set for a meal
  • Bathrooms with a freestanding tub
  • Pools and terraces seen from a balcony

The 3 photos to take

Take them in one visit, in the same light. The first photo is where the clip opens and the last is where it lands, so shoot them in the order the camera should travel.

  1. 1

    Eye level

Standing at the island or table, photograph it straight on — this is the opening frame.

  2. 2

    Rising

Hold the camera above your head, angled down at the surface.

  3. 3

    Straight down

As high as you can reach, pointing straight down at the surface — where the rise finishes.

Tips for a better overhead rise

  • Style the surface first; the top-down photo shows everything on it.
  • Hold the phone directly above the centre of the surface for the last photo.
  • Keep the surface centred as you rise — it should not slide off the bottom of the frame.

Mistakes to avoid

  • A top-down photo that is tilted; straight down means straight down.
  • Rising over an empty, bare surface.
  • Your own shadow across the last photo.

Not sure your photos will work? The AI Listing Planner reads a folder of photos, picks the move each room can support, and says what to re-shoot when a set won't work.

Questions

How many photos does an overhead rise need?

3 photos of the same room: first eye level, then rising, last straight down. Take them in one visit in the same light — the overhead rise opens on the first and lands on the last.

Do I need a drone for a top-down shot indoors?

No. Stand on a chair or the second step of a ladder and hold the phone out flat over the surface. A monopod extended above your head does the same. For a pool or terrace, a balcony above it gives the angle.

Is the overhead rise included on every Villenza plan?

Yes — the overhead rise, like every travel move, is on every plan at the same 720p HD output; plans differ only in listings per month.
